Band History

Second Helping

After attending a late 1987 Lynyrd Skynyrd rehearsal, Chris McCallister was involved in a conversation with a few of the Skynyrd members. He asked, "How much longer will you guys be doing this?" A few of the members reiterated, "Only this year, as a tribute to the fans." Chris responded, "Someone should be doing a tribute to you guys!" With that, guitarist Gary Rossington laughed and said, "What, like Beatlemania!?" So, Chris and Dennis Nail (bassist in Chris' band) left that rehearsal and went back to their band (Next Exit) in Tampa. Chris introduced the thought of doing an entire set of Lynyrd Skynyrd as a tribute to Skynyrd. The Skynyrd set went over big time in the Tampa Bay area; by mid-1988, the tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd was born. Within a few years that one set Skynyrd tribute grew into an international/national act known as "Second Helping." Second Helping was/is, "...the first Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band in the United States"

Second Helping is much more than a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band; it is not a knock-off tribute with six people playing Lynyrd Skynyrd music; it is a showcase for classic Skynyrd music. Expect a big show with the three guitar line up, a full complement of girl background singers, a big sound, and an evening that will bring you back to a time of youth, fun, and hope.
